Comedy Central has signed separate deals with both Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert to stay on late-night shows through the next presidential election.
Stewart’s deal keeps him hosting The Daily Show through June 2013, while Colbert is now committed to The Colbert Report through the end of 2012.
The shows have been a hit for the network, and though some of its other earlier series, like South Park, may have put the cable channel on the map, Stewart and Colbert have helped it earn respect. Since Stewart took over The Daily Show in 1999, it has earned 32 Emmy nominations, including a record seven consecutive nods for Outstanding Variety, Music or Comedy Series. The Report has garnered 15 Emmy nominations since 2005, including four consecutive nominations in the same category.
