Update: US Dish approves just about everyone to get Satellite TV through Dish Network. I recommend trying to order Dish Network through US Dish, they are a reputable Satellite TV dealer and should get you approved.
Signing up for Satellite TV service goes smoothly for most people, however one thing that isn’t really mentioned alot is that you need to pass a credit check in order to get Dish Network and DirecTV. Now this credit check is very easy to pass (its not like trying to get a mortgage or car loan) however for those of you who may have bad credit or no credit there is an alternative.
If You Can’t Get Approved with US Dish:
Dish Network currently offers a way to prepay for satellite service. With Dish Network Pre-Paid you don’t have to sign a contract and you dont receive a monthly bill. This also eliminates having to give them a credit card or social security number when you sign up, which you generally have to do if you sign a contract. You simply pay for the service in advance by purchasing a pre-paid card at radio shack or your local electronics store. You then activate the pre-paid card over the phone.
There are a variety of packages available with Dish Pre-Paid including:
- DishFAMILY
- America’s Top 100
- America’s Top 200
- America’s Top 250
- DishLATINO
- DishLATINO Plus
- DishLATINO Dos
- DishLATINO Max
You can also get premium movie packages such as HBO, Cinemax, Shoetime and Starz.
Dish Network Pre-paid is also great if you have a second home or vacation home that you only spend a few months a year at. This way you just pay for the time you will use, instead of paying monthly since you may not be there for most of the year.
There are a few catches with Dish Network prepaid. First you need to make sure you have hardware that will work with the pre-paid service. You can purchase the hardware required at Radio Shack as well. Secondly, when you factor in the cost of the hardware the service is more expensive than signing a contract, however for those who can’t get the service through a contract this is a pretty good alternative.
If all else fails you can always try to repair your credit and re-apply in a few months.
I agree with you 100%.
Dish Network’s Pre-Paid program is the way to go for sure. It is also great for customers who don’t want to be locked into a 2 year contract, or as you mentioned a second home.
I live in Michigan and I get my share of customers with summer homes up here.
pre pay is great for us. with our work hours getting to radio shack is the hard part sometimes, if we could bye the pre paid card on line would be great. thanks
Pre-Pay with Dish Network is a great alternative to the 1 year or 2 year agreement. Some pay tv customers don’t want to be locked in!
i dont understand why i have to pay over 300 dollars whn i already have my own tvs and two satellite dishes that are sitting in my yard
i believe the credit qualification for dish is a score of 580 which is really bad credit..dish tries to get everyone approved for free equipment.now dish has the best the equipment in the industry even if u have a satellite on your home u still need a receiver (dish offers the best receivers in sat. tech) put it like this dish is a mercedes and other companies are like honda dont expect to have bad credit and get a mercedes with no money down..Dish is the best service so they need the best customers(customers with good credit).
If I buy a dish and a receiver from someone else do I still need service from dish or can I just set it up and watch free tv?
