ABC has opted not to order more episodes of the freshman supernatural comedy-drama Eastwick and has become the network’s first aired casualty of the new season. The series was based on the John Updike novel from 1984, The Witches of Eastwick, and the 1987 film by the same name. The network will finish production on 13 episodes and plans to run them all.
Eastwick, starring Rebecca Romijn and Lindsay Price, performed dismally in its Wednesday night time slot despite the solid lead-in from Courteney Cox’s new comedy Cougar Town. Last week Eastwick averaged a series-low 1.5 adults 18-49 rating and lost 46% of Cougar’s lead-in viewers. The show finished 0.1 ahead of NBC’s The Jay Leno Show in the time slot.
