Cable network FX has nabbed the TV rights to air 2012, the new Roland Emmerich (The Day After Tomorrow, Independence Day), disaster movie that was first place at the box office this weekend. The film earned $225 million from its worldwide debut. Along with 2012, FX has snagged the rights to another Sony film that opened at No. 1 this fall, the horror-comedy Zombieland, starring Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg and Emma Stone, which will be available at the end of next year.
The license fee for both films is said to be standard, which is about 12% of their domestic box office.
2012 will premiere on FX in the beginning of 2012 just in time for the end of the world.
