On the heels of the AP’s most important shows of the decade, the news agency has put together the best shows for 2009. The usual suspects are included: Lost, Mad Men and Breaking Bad, but some surprising picks also landed on the list. Critically praised freshman shows such as The Good Wife and Modern Family made it, yet sadly, my new favorite comedy, Community, failed to make the list.
• “Breaking Bad” (FX). Here’s the cruelest premise on series TV: a high-school teacher with terminal cancer gets into the crystal-meth trade as a desperate scheme to make sure his family is financially secure after he dies. Against all odds, in its second season, this drama upped the danger level, getting even stranger, more addictive and, yes, even funnier.
