Hot on the heels of the news that ESPN will debut an all 3D network this year, LG will introduce their first 3D capable flat panel television in the U.S. in May. While the Korean manufacturer may be the first to create 3D sets to reach U.S. consumers, it won’t be the last. Other TV makers are expected to join them with announcements later this week at the International Consumer Electronics Show (ICES) in Las Vegas.
While prices have not been formally announced, they are expected to be higher than that of traditional HDTVs. Director of product development at LG Electronics USA, Tim Alessi, stated that these 3D televisions may likely cost only $200 to $300 more than “comparable sets.” The electronics industry is charging forward with a push to get 3D technology into homes. Currently, this technology is becoming widely used in theaters in 3D resurgence.
