NBC took it on the chin Sunday night as Hollywood’s shining elite, and host Ricky Gervais, took aim at the network for its bumbling of its late-night schedule, which will force Conan O’Brien to be replaced by Jay Leno on The Tonight Show.
After his opening monologue, Golden Globe host and British comedian Ricky Gervais said, “Let’s get on with it (the show) before NBC replaces me with Jay Leno,” which was answered by thunderous applause. Later, he said: “I will be making the most of this opportunity. I’m not used to these sort of viewer figures. Let’s face it, nor is NBC.”
Julia Roberts, who was nominated for her part in Duplicity and presented the award for best dramatic film, mentioned it on the red carpet, telling red carpet interviewer Billy Bush, “NBC, you guys are in the toilet right now.” Ouch
Later on, 30 Rock creator/writer/star Tina Fey told Bush the rain in Los Angeles was “God crying for NBC.” Oof.
