By The Guru | May 13, 2008
People will never tire of watching sporting events. Some prefer watching professional baseball, basketball and football games. Others enjoy watching collegiate and high-school games, drawn by the intensity of the players and other fans. Still others fanatically follow their favorite teams, refusing to miss even a single game during the season. For every taste and preference, the Dish Network has a sports package to accommodate. Below, we’ll provide you with an overview of the Dish Network’s 2008 sports packages.
Season Tickets
The Dish Network provides a Season Ticket program that allows you to watch all of the broadcast games for your favorite sports. For example, if you like watching basketball, you’ll want to get the NBA League Pass which includes up to 40 season games every week. Hockey fans will want the NHL Center Ice package while soccer fans can choose the MLS Direct Kick Season Ticket.
Football enthusiasts can purchase the ESPN GamePlan package to watch up to 12 “out of market” games from many of the highest-profile conferences. The Pac-10, Sun Belt, Big 12, ACC and other conferences are included in this Season Ticket. Each of the major sporting events (with the exception of baseball) is offered with a Season Ticket package for those who can’t imagine missing a game.
College Sports Package
Some sports fans like to watch college events. They prefer the pure adrenaline and drive of the young athletes matched with the ferocity of each team’s marching bands. The Dish Network provides 4 different college sports packages for 2008. First, ESPNU is a 24-hour sports channel devoted to broadcasting highlights of nearly 300 season and championship events from basketball, wrestling, softball, volleyball and other sports. Second, the ESPN GamePlan (described above) allows you to follow conference rivals as they match up on the road to the national championships.
Third, the Dish Network’s ESPN Full Court is for the consummate college basketball fan. Over 450 games (up to 30 games each week) from around the country are included in this package. Finally, the College Sports TV package offers live games, analysis and college sports news around the clock.
Multi-Sport Package
For those who love a mix of professional, college and high-school sporting events, the Dish Network’s Multi-Sport Package may be the perfect ticket. You’ll receive access to channels like the Big 10 Network (devoted to the Big Ten Conference) along with regional sporting events. Other channels include NBA TV (in both standard and high-definition), MSGPLUS (a mix of various events including football, horse racing and dog shows) and the New England Sports Network.
Pay-Per-View Events
Often, one-time events are made available to the Dish Network’s customers for a small fee. Boxing matches, cricket tournaments, mixed martial arts and other sports are broadcast through a Pay-Per-View option. For example, access to the “Sugar” Shane Mosley Vs. Zab Judah boxing match airing on May 31st and the UFC 84 event scheduled for broadcast on May 24th can be ordered by phone or on the Dish Network website.
