Why is Hulu Pulling Content?

As just about everyone and their mother has already heard, Hulu has been pulling it’s content from a number of sites that in some cases heavily relied on it for users. Both Boxee and TV.com have had Hulu remove it’s shows and clips from their sites. With such a move, many suers and bloggers alike have a number of theories as to why Hulu made the decision. According to TV Loop, it was done since the relaunch of TV.com put the site a little too close to being direct Hulu competition.
Boxee, on the other hand, isn’t quite so simple. One legitimate concern is that Hulu was worried about the safety of it’s content on Boxee in that it could be easily pirated. If that’s the case (again as TV Loop points out) then it’s possible that they could actually make that problem worse. If Boxee can’t get their episodes directly from Hulu, then they will find other, likely less legitimate sources.
After all, there are plenty of hardware providers out there that will do exactly what Boxee does. There’s no way Hulu can manage to keep track of and stop them all, even if they wanted to.
