And so the battle continues…DirecTV has recently accused Dish Network of false advertising.  In one of their commercials, Dish Network poses the question “Why pay more?”, referencing that their monthly rates are only $39.98 compared to $63.99.  In return, direcTV has filed a lawsuit in District Court seeing an injunction to stop the ads, retract the claims, run correct ads, and provide a package reimbursing them for monetary damages.

According to DirecTV, Dish’s comparison of “apples to oranges” is false when comparing the Choice Xtra package (140 channels) while Dish’s America’s Top 120 package offers fewer than 100.  The ads first aired on February 8th and in the following three days, Dish spent more than $1 million on the campaign.  As a result, DirecTV also claims that Dish has “flooded the airways with false advertising.”

It’s not like this is the first time that each has complained about the other’s smear tactics.  Late last year, DirecTV filed another lawsuit saying that Dish was “hiding a multitude of fess, planned rate changes, and terms that call for automatic renewals.”  The current ad is actually pretty funny and has been airing on ten different national networks.  Ironically, most of the channels the ad airs on is available to DirecTV subscribers but not to Dish Network’s America’s Top 120 package subscribers.  This wasn’t the first and certainly will not be the last time these two powerhouses clash.  The pursuit to gain more subscribers never ends and it seems like the smear tactics are getting more dirtier by the year.  It’s going to get to the point of a presidential campaign.  But for shopping satellite customers like me, this competition means lower prices!
