The Secret Life of the American Teenager is back with it’s second season.

Have you had a chance to check this show out? Probably not, as it’s quite popular among teenagers (hence the name). Something about the show once caught my attention (it could have been the fact that there was honestly nothing else on television that day). So I settled down into the couch, got comfy, and tried to watch the show.

Notice how I said tried. This show is created by Brenda Hampton, who also created 7th Heaven. And while I used to be a huge 7th Heaven fan, it hasn’t caught my attention in quite some time.

This show, in my humble opinion, is a bust. So what keeps the preteens and teens interested? I think it’s the aspect of a train wreck— or the accident syndrome. You see the crash and your neck starts to hurt from trying to see what’s happening.

Girl has sex, girl gets pregnant, girl has melodramas. Now girl is a mother and still in high school.

Am I old fashioned? Maybe so. But there’s something unnerving about the fact that this is the ENTIRE concept of the show. It’s not as though there is a character on a series who happens to be a young, teenage mother. No. This entire show is based on the stupid mistake of a teenager and the antics that the producers think teenage mothers go through (and I’m sure some of them might… but trust me, watch an episode and you’ll laugh too).
