The 2009 NHL season is underway and already there have been highlight goals and saves.  While it’s too early to tell who will come out on top, one can stay up to date on their favorite team by tracking and watching online.  The NHL has their online league pass which allows viewers to watch pretty much any game whenever they want.  However, the two major Canadian television networks also allow users to watch replays or stream select live games.  Here is a summary of their services.

NHL GameCenter

NHL GameCenter Live allows viewers to watch up to 40 live games a week.  One can track their favorite team or players online.  Features include HD quality video, picture-in-picture, multi-game view allowing one to watch four games at once, as well as access to the replay archive.  Subscription to Gamecenter Live also allows viewers to get select games during the Stanley Cup playoffs.  Subscription costs $19.95 per month or a special savings rate of $159.00 (until Oct. 31st).

CBC.ca

Those who haven’t spent any time in Canada have probably never heard of CBC.  It plays second fiddle to TSN, but their announcers are better, featuring the legendary Don Cherry and his suits.  Viewers of Hockey Night in Canada’s regular season coverage will again be able to watch the CBC game of their choice with live and on-demand online video streaming of all games, including Scotiabank Hockey Tonight and CBC’s Hockey Night in Canada I-Desk.  This service is free and check the CBC website for exact schedules and games.

TSN.ca

TSN, the Great White North’s equivalent of ESPN, provides coverage of most hockey games as well.  Although you might not be able to watch games live, video of the games are usually posted the next day.  Clips are usually split up into three videos, one for each period.  Video quality is good and they also provide coverage of American teams instead of just the Canadian ones.  Service is free.
