Tyler Perry’s TBS sitcom, Meet the Browns, which already has over 40 episodes logged, will start airing syndicated episodes on several major networks next fall. The syndication company Debmar-Mercury’s deal places the sitcom in more than 70 percent of the nation for a September debut on major station groups, including Fox, Tribune, CBS and Cox.

The TV series stems from a play that Tyler Perry first debuted in 2004, which spawned a feature film by the same name. Browns is the No. 1 series on TBS this season among adults aged 18-to-49. Traditional syndication deals usually occur four to five years after its debut. The syndication deal for Meet the Browns is scheduled to happen 15 months after its premiere on TBS.

Meet the Browns currently airs Wednesday nights at 10PM.

The show has been licensed on a cash-plus-barter basis (five minutes local/two minutes national) in seven of the top 10 markets: New York (Fox), Chicago (Weigel), Philadelphia (Tribune), Dallas-Fort Worth (Fox), Atlanta (Peachtree), Washington, D.C. (Fox) and Houston (Fox). A total of 70 percent of U.S. households will be meeting the Meet the Browns in syndication.

“As we proved with House of Payne,” says Debmar-Mercury co-president Ira Bernstein, “viewers are hungry for fresh episodes of quality sitcoms in syndication, and, as the fast pace of clearances indicates, stations know they can depend on Tyler Perry to deliver them.”

Meet the Browns joins Perry’s House of Payne, which follows an African-American household with three generations of family. House of Payne illustrates struggles with faith and love, as well as showing how to coexist with the generation gap by way of comedy. Payne ran briefly in the spring of 2006 as a 10-show pilot. Perry signed a $200 million, 100-episode deal with TBS after a successful pilot run. In June 2007, the first two episodes of Tyler Perry’s House of Payne ran on TBS. After receiving high ratings, House of Payne entered syndication.

Reruns of House of Payne were played through December 2007 before the second season began. The third season began on March 5, 2008 and the fourth season on June 4, 2008. House of Payne now airs on The CW and has completed more than 100 episodes.
