The Upfronts are usually reserved for networks only but when you’re Ted Turner, the rules don’t apply. In an unprecedented move for a cable company, Turner announced TNT’s summer schedule and teased other upcoming projects as part of the upfronts in New York this week. They even brought out some serious star power like Jada Pinkett Smith (who has a new series debuting on TNT, Hawthorne) and her hubby Will Smith.
Here’s a look at TNT’s summer original programming airing this summer:
Monday
9 p.m.: The Closer
10 p.m.: Raising the Bar
Tuesday
8 p.m.: Wedding Day, the net’s first foray into original reality television
9 p.m.: Hawthorne
10 p.m.: Saving Grace
Wednesday
9 p.m.: Leverage
10 p.m.: Dark Blue
In December, TNT will launch another new dramedy, Men of a Certain Age, starring Ray Romano and Scott Bakula.
Turner also rolled out new shows coming to its other networks, TBS and TruTV. TBS will welcome a new animated series, Neighbors From Hell and a new late night talk show starring George Lopez this fall while TruTV will offer up three new reality series, NFL Full Contact, Conspiracy Theory with Jesse Ventura and U.S. Special Ops: Declassified. Sadly, there was no mention of TBS’ current prime time comedy series, My Boys though it was confirmed Tyler Perry’s House of Pain and Meet The Browns will return next year.
