It’s tough economic times, not only in the every day American household. Even television companies are feeling the crunch, and NBC is one of those company who happens to be struggling.
So how can they make this work? That’s a question that the executives are tackling right now. It’s not a surprise that NBC has some of the top rated, scripted television programs. Taking those programs and focusing on them seems to be one goal of the producers.
“We have a strong foundation and some of the best shows on television and I think we have to build on that,” Angela Bromstad, president of primetime entertainment, told TV critics gathered here for an annual showcase of upcoming programs.
“I think we have fallen short in the past couple of years and it is our goal to bring back those high quality sophisticated dramas and comedies and a brand of alternative programing,” she said.”
So what is contributing to the economic troubles within NBC? The executives weighed in and said that some shows have just been allowed to get too expensive and now it’s time to reign in the ropes and get back to television roots.
I hope NBC continues to focus more on scripted, quality television. Leave the unscripted reality to those shows who definitely care a bit less about their viewers.
