Stephen Colbert made a pit stop at Late Night with Jimmy Fallon yesterday before taping his own Comedy Central show, The Colbert Report. Colbert was invited on to talk about the Colbert Nation-sponsored U.S. speedskating team. He also sparred with Jimmy over a recent Glamour magazine article in which readers voted they’d rather “Do” Jimmy Fallon, “Dump” Conan O’Brien, and “Marry” Stephen Colbert. “I don’t care if Jimmy Fallon is ‘totes hot,’” Colbert said on the Report, “Marriage is a sacred trust!” Considering the tension over the vote, it wasn’t surprising that it came to blows in a 30 Rock elevator. After leaving Jimmy’s show, Colbert returned to his own studio where he called out Sarah Palin’s “satire” defense over the word “retard”, then used it to describe the former Alaska governor herself.

“We should all come to her defense and say that Sarah Palin is a f—ing retard,” Colbert said. “It’s satire.”

The comic slam came after Palin called for the resignation of White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel after he called liberal activists “f—ing retarded,” but later forgave Rush Limbaugh for doing the same thing, calling his use of the term “satire.”

“Our politically correct society is acting like some giant insult’s taken place by calling a bunch of people who are retards, retards,” Rush said on his radio show.

“He was satirical in that,” Palin told Fox News Sunday.

Her defense of Limbaugh directly contradicts what Palin’s spokesperson said last week , “Governor Palin believes crude and demeaning name calling at the expense of others is disrespectful.”
