By now, you are probably well aware that there will be a digital TV transition on February 17, 2009. At that point, all U.S. broadcast television stations will stop broadcasting on analog airwaves and begin broadcasting in digital only. This will allow stations to offer improved picture and sound quality as well as more channels to consumers.

But, according to the FCC, if you have satellite TV you are covered.

If you subscribe to the cable TV service offered in your city or town, or if you subscribe individually to satellite TV service and receive your local channels through your own satellite dish, you will continue to receive your local broadcast channels without having to buy a digital television or DTV converter box.

This is because Cable TV and Satellite Boxes all include provisions for digital-to-analog signal conversion for use with analog televisions. So, that means if you are using an antenna on your analog set now, you can sign up for a satellite TV service, like DirecTV or Dish Network, before the cutoff date and your television viewing will not be interrupted.
