He was someone special, but it took him a lifetime, and some divine intervention, for him to realize that. The Lost episode “Cabin Fever” focused on John Locke and the Island’s need for him. He was an intricate part of the Island, even before he set foot on the strange semi-paradise. The Island knew of his existence well before he knew of its. “Cabin Fever” showed clips of John Locke’s life. It was a sad life, as he was born into a family that did not want him and was ridiculed when he hit his teenage years. Then later, as he was paralyzed, it seemed as if all hope was lost. But was it really? One of The Others visited John Locke at the hospital when he was born. He also visited him as a little boy. Then, after he was confined to a wheelchair, another one of The Others was his orderly. Obviously, John Locke was not an average citizen. He was something special, and The Others needed to see him in the flesh to understand just how special he was. They tried to help Locke understand that he was something more than he realized, but initially Locke pushed that idea away. Eventually, John Locke was guided to the Island. He was brought there, possibly by Jacob, to take Ben’s place as the leader. He was the messiah of the Island. It is as if he was the son of Jacob. But still, even with all of John Locke’s powers and abilities, he needed the other passengers on that Oceanic flight to help him on the Island. Everyone had a reason for being there. Hurley was the only one with the ability to see Jacob’s cabin. Without Hurley, John Locke would not be able to find his leader. Christian, the father of Jack and Claire, was in that cabin of Jacob’s, and gave Locke guidance. Desmond used to date the daughter of the man who is searching out Ben. With still more connections left to find, viewers of the hit show will be glued to their television screens. The show has a purpose, and that purpose is just in the beginning stages of being revealed. Topics: Lost | 3 Comments » Related Articles

Thanks for the insight. Sometimes I feel like I need a study guide to understand what’s going on, but I still love the show. Your article helped me. Darlene Nahkai - May 13th, 2008 at 11:51 am
I find myself still thinking about Lost days after I’ve seen the episode. There’s so much mystery. I liked your explanation of this episode. Leave a Comment
