Sunday night’s Lost finale brought in an easy ratings win for ABC. Even though the ratings were good, they weren’t great, and the episode largely left fans with many questions and feeling unsatisfied.
The 2.5 hour finale averaged 13.5 million viewers and was the show’s highest-rated episode in two years. Though ABC suggests that 20.5 million unique viewers tuned in for at least six minutes throughout the episode.
A two-hour clip show that preceded the finale drew 11.4 million viewers and Jimmy Kimmel’s Aloha to Lost special that followed the finale drew 3.2 million viewers, Jimmy’s third-largest audience ever in the adults-18-to-49 demographic.
Even though the network won the night, it wasn’t the blow-out they had hoped for.
NBC took second place for the night with the season finale of Celebrity Apprentice, including the first live appearance by Bret Michael since his brain hemmorage. The show averaged 9.3 million viewers and improved 10 percent over the previous season’s finale.
Taking third place for the night was Fox’s animated comedies’ finales. A one-hour Family Guy topped the night with 6.3 million, down 21 percent from the week before. The Simpsons (5.7 million viewers) and The Cleveland Show (4.9 million viewers) were down 14 percent and 15 percent, respectively.
CBS placed fourth, with a Brooks and Dunn concert special (10.1 million viewers) and a CSI repeat (6.8 million viewers).
