If you’ve never had a chance to check out MTV’s Jersey Shore, what are you waiting for? Seriously, over tanned, over worked, over spiked, over made up men and women, who are self proclaimed “guidos” and “guidettes” are just showing the world what it’s like to be “Italian,” if you ask them.
But according to the New Jersey Italian American Legislative Caucus, Jersey Shore violates the spirit of the New Jersey’s hate crime laws.
Yes, you read that right.
They are calling for the show to be cancelled. “The bias-related acts displayed by employees of MTV Networks in the production and marketing of ‘Jersey Shore,’ by their nature, are confrontational, inflame tensions and promote social hostility,” wrote Vitale, the caucus chairman. “These acts are contrary to the spirit of New Jersey law and jeopardize the active and open pursuit of freedom and opportunity.”
Come again?
Don’t worry, fans. The show is in no danger of being cancelled. In fact, MTV has proclaimed that the show displays just one aspect of youth culture. According to the cast members (not all of whom are even Italian American), Guidodom is a “lifestyle” centering on Italian pride, tanning and hair products.
So get it right, NJ Italian American Legislative Caucus. MTV can’t cancel this show, it’s getting them similar rankings to their very scripted but hilarious show, “The Hills”. Teenage girls across the country are tuning in to learn how to perfect the fist pump and meet men who spend more time primping than the average gal.
