Conan may have hit an all time low, but, despite the bad publicity, it seems like everything is on the up and up for Jay Leno. Not only is Jay getting The Tonight Show back on March 1, but he’ll also be hosting this year’s White House Correspondents’ Dinner.
And just as Tonight is nothing new for Leno, the White House Correspondents’ Dinner is familiar territory too. He hosted the dinner in 1987, 2000 and 2004 and was chosen to host again this year before the late night debacle.
The annual dinner will take place May 1 and will bring together celebrities, politicians and journalists to help raise scholarship money for aspiring journalists. Past hosts include Wanda Sykes, Stephen Colbert, Craig Ferguson and even Conan O’Brien.
Leno will also be appearing on The Oprah Winfrey Show Jan. 28. There is no doubt the appearance is an attempt to repair his battered reputation. Leno will discuss, in detail, NBC’s time slot experimentation, the ratings, Conan’s payout and his own return to The Tonight Show. The interview will not take place in front of Oprah’s usual live audience though. Instead, the media mogul is flying to L.A. to interview Jay on his own turf and, more importantly, NBC’s turf.
