Its only been a week and there are already some major complaints from subscribers about Hulu Plus. So, is it worth $9.99 a month? It might be, but there are still some issues they need to iron out.
Though Hulu has an extensive library of TV shows available to subscribers, they are still missing some critical programming, especially for those who are using the service instead of paying for cable or satellite. Some shows, like Glee are available in their entirety, but others, like Friday Night Lights, are limited (there are only 8 episodes of FNL available). And, more popular shows, like 24 and Lost are there, but only the most recent seasons, there is no archive of past seasons to view.
The lack of CBS is also a problem. It means that some of the most popular shows on TV like The Good Wife, How I Met Your Mother or Two and a Half Men are MIA. There is also a lack of cable programming, so there are no Comedy Central, USA, or HBO shows in sight.
But, the lack of programming is not the feature that has most subscribers screaming. Its the ads that have been most irritating to those who have tried out the service so far. Hulu is currently inserting the same number of ads into the paid service as the free service and forcing ads at certain points too.
Depending on what you are interested in, Netflix or iTunes is probably a better option, considering they have more to choose from and no ads. But, on the other hand, Hulu may be a better deal if you want to watch an entire season of a series in a short period of time (less than a month). It would cost more than $30 to watch the last season of Lost on iTunes, or you can watch it for 9.99 on Hulu.
You can sign up for a free one month trial of Hulu Plus to try it out yourself and see if it works for you. If you do, let us know if you think it is worth it!
