How to Upload a Video in HD to YouTube

    By The Guru | May 15, 2008

Don’t hit the side of your computer screen. It’s not your computer acting up; it’s just the quality of the video. With certain videos on YouTube, it seems like we’re back in the days of an analog television signal, with the fuzzy lines and all. Don’t despair, though, for there is a fix to this problem. The best news is that it’s simple, and it gives the viewer HD quality video with just a couple of clicks on the keyboard.

YouTube is currently attempting to find a way to make all of their videos HD. However, this is not an easy task, as they don’t want to cause videos to have huge buffering times. Right now, they are testing the product. In the meantime, a code can be put into the URL so videos will play in HD. As long as HD is available for the particular video you have chosen, the code will work.

    Step #1-Find a Video

Yes, I know, that’s a pretty basic step. I did tell you this was easy, right?

Step #2-Click on Video to Play It

Click on the video and watch the image come up and start to play. Now here is the part where you actually have to do something, so get out your pen and paper to write the next step down.

Step #3-Type a Code into the URL

In order to get the YouTube video to play in HD, a code has to be entered in the URL. At the end of the URL, simply type &fmt=18. Hit enter and you’ll be good to go. As long as HD is available, the video will play in the HD format.

The difference between YouTube’s regular format and HD is tremendous. Watch two videos back to back, the first one as you normally would and the second one in HD. You will get hooked on HD. Also, there is not much of a buffer time right now with the HD videos. That could change when HD becomes universal on YouTube, so take advantage of the opportunity to watch your videos in HD before everyone else does.
