How to Save Money On Your Satellite or Cable Bill
By The Guru | July 31, 2007
We often get emails from people who are tired of paying high prices for their Satellite or Cable television, asking if there is a way to save money, and at the same time get the same amount of programming and movies. Currently, the average satellite or cable bill runs around $50 to $60 a month. This is often because families need a wide variety of channels because kids and parents like to watch different types of shows. The kids in the family may want to watch movies on the Disney Channel, and parents watch to watch movies on Cinimax or HBO.
The best way we have found to save money, and still get movies that everyone can enjoy is by signing up for a service like Blockbuster Online or Netflix, and cutting down on premium channels you pay for through your satellite or cable service. This can save you up to $300 a year, and you still can get all of the latest movies for your family to enjoy. Renting from services like Netflix or Blockbuster Online can cost as little as $5 a month. Below we will outline different plans both services offer, so you can see which service is right for you.
Netflix
Plans for Netflix Start at $4.99 a month. The service is simple and easy to use. You sign up for a Netflix account online. You then pick movies you want to see from their website. The movies are mailed to your door and arrive in about 1 business day. When you are done watching a movie you simply mail it back in a prepaid envelope. They then send out the next movie on your list. Netflix also has plans now that allow you to have more than one movie out at once. You get Free shipping both ways, and they now also have a service where you can watch movies instantly on your PC. A major advantage to Netflix is there are no late fees. You simply keep a movie until you are done with it, and when you mail it back they send out your next movie.
Netflix Plans

I have been considering switching to an online movie service for awhile because my cable bill is getting out of hand with the HBO package. I think I might go with the Blockbuster deal because of the in store returns. Thoughts?

After reading this I signed up for blockbuster and I just got my first movies in the mail, it only took about one day so im happy so far. If everything goes well im going to cancel my premium channel subscriptions and save about $50.00 a month, so we will see.

We have a Blockbuster online membership, and we love it! The turn around time is fast, and the ability to exchange the movies in the store is nice, too.

I’ve found that the best way to save money on TV bill is to switch providers often…. The Cable providers especially offer great promotions to get you as a new customer… They do that in hope that you say. Once your promotion ends threaten to switch. They almost always extend the promotion for you…
