HBO Planning New Website, HBO GO

HBO has already conquered the world of original programming, now they’re looking to become the kingpin of online video too.
A few weeks ago, HBO’s parent company, Time Warner, began discussing its plan to launch a site similar to Hulu.com, called HBO GO, where subscribers could access their programming online. That’s the catch, you would have to be a subscriber to the cable channel to access videos on the site.
Many critics believe HBO GO is a direct response to Epix, a joint venture between Paramount, Lionsgate and MGM studios, that will be both a website and a pay TV channel that broadcasts current and classic movies, not unlike HBO does now.
HBO GO is just the latest in a “TV Everywhere” initiative that is being spearheaded by Comcast and Time Warner to provide more online, on-demand content accessible only to subscribers.
But, what if their viewers aren’t interested in HBO GO? After all, they can watch all of the same movies and TV shows at HBO OnDemand on their television. Unless you’re traveling (or at work) wouldn’t you more likely to just down in front of your TV?
If HBO’s audience doesn’t take to the site as well as they are planning, it will be interesting to see if they make some of the content available to the public with advertising a-la-Hulu.
Are an HBO subscriber? Do you think you would use HBO GO?
