When it comes to setting up viable television programming during an economic downturn, there are a number of approaches that have worked in the past. Unquestionably,. people like to “escape” reality during times like these. That’s exactly why you see the video game industry holding strong despite being an unnecessary expense. For many consumers, being able to get away from the harsh reality of a recession can be helpful, and many TV networks adjust their programming accordingly to see to that need.

HBO, however, is taking a much different approach. They’ve decided that to bring in viewers, perhaps it’s best to show them exactly what’s going on. The network recently bought up the rights to an upcoming book about the recession. The book examines the current financial disaster and how it all came to the situation we find ourselves in now.

The series will revolve around key players that helped to orchestrate the crisis, and will start with the “problematic” moves made by Washington and Wall Street alike. It’ll go all the way up to and through the government bailout of our biggest financial institutions. Sounds pretty comprehensive, I’ll definitely be watching!
