Originally slated for April, FX is pushing back the premiere of comic Louis C.K.’s new series Louie, to June.

The cable station announced it was holding off the premiere until June so it could use Dennis Leary’s popular drama Rescue Me as its lead-in. No specific date in June for the premieres of Rescue Me and Louie were announced, but TV pundits expect that it will be mid-month.

FX had ordered 13 episodes of Louie, which is shot on location in New York City. The show is a natural fit with the network’s male-centric schedule including It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, which saw its ratings hit a peak last season. FX recently premiered the animated comedy Archer to positive reviews and respectable ratings (1.82 million total viewers). But since its premiere in January, the show has suffered a ratings decline.

“Louie is a brilliantly funny and original series, and we are excited by the critical response to the show,” said  John Landgraf, President and General Manager, FX Networks. “Even though it is a drama, Rescue Me has always been regarded as one of the funniest shows on television and it will provide an outstanding, compatible lead-in for Louie. We successfully used Rescue Me as a lead-in for the majority of the first season of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. We believe in Louie and want to provide it with the best possible platform for success.”

The show follows Louis as he tries to balance two young daughters while living and doing stand-up comedy in New York City. In other words, it’s about his real life.

“It’s not like other shows, and I don’t mean to brag,” Louis C.K. said in a telephone interview with the NY Times. “I just mean that it’s hard to describe.”

“It’s very vignette-y,” Louis C.K. said. “It’s very vérité. All those French words. I use ‘em all.”
