Last night another death hoax hit the internet via Twitter, Facebook and other social networks and this time, Wonder Years star Fed Savage was the victim.

In this case, it appears the culprit wasn’t just a random troublemaker, but it was actually the actor’s slight resemblance to Corey Haim (who is actually dead).

During the Emmys “In Memoriam” segment, photos of the recently deceased appeared alongside Jewel singing live on stage. An image of a young Corey Haim appeared on the screen and apparently some viewers thought it was Fred Savage (event though Haim’s name was clearly printed on screen under his photo).

The confusion prompted (fake) headlines claiming the actor died in a drunk driving accident, the rumor was picked up on Twitter and quickly spread.

Savage, who is 34, has not commented on the rumors but he was tweeting himself last night, more proof the rumors are just that, rumors.

Haim died March 10 of natural causes from “community-acquired pneumonia” along with lung, heart and blood vessel problems, according to an autopsy report.
