Like Gilligan’s Island without the funny, the castaways of Lost have been trapped on the island for what seems like an eternity. In TV-time, it’s been six years since J.J. Abrams’ action-adventure/mystery aired on ABC and in that time, Lost has made a heavy impact on how movies and television series are structured. It’s large ensemble cast of characters (that expanded over the years) simultaneously drove the plot and their situation in conjunction with these unique personalities interacting with one another also defined the plot.

Speaking of cast and characters, some long-absent faces will return for Season 6 for either guest appearances or something more substantial. Ian Somerhalder (The Vampire Diaries) is scheduled to come back for a few appearances as the deaceased Boone Carlyle. Cynthia Watros will be back as fan-favorite shrink and “Tailie,” Libby. And Harold Perrineau will return as Michael Dawson, who left the island in Season 2 with his gifted son, Walt.

While ABC would have liked the show to continue for ten years, they acquiesced to the show’s creative team to end Lost on their own terms rather than succumb to “The X-Files Syndrome” where a show squeaks out a last gasp rather than go out with a bang. While the creators have acknowledged that not every mystery that has presented itself to the Lostaways will be solved, many will be resolved to fans’ (hopeful) satisfaction.

Will we ever find out the mystery behind the four-toed foot statue fragment? Who are/were Adam and Eve, the two male and female skeletons? Will young Walt’s special abilities and role within the past six seasons be revealed? Tune in on Tuesday to see if any of these questions and countless others are answered in Lost’s final season.

The president has Lost fans in a tizzy. It’s being reported that President Obama’s State of the Union Address may be moved to Feb. 2, the same night of the final season premiere of Lost.

The Washington Post is reporting that fans, who have already waited nearly five years to see the show’s biggest mysteries unravel, will have to wait even longer while Obama discusses health care and national security.

The President’s annual speech usually happens on a weeknight at 9 p.m. sometime in late January. The Networks had planned their schedules around news that the speech would take place Jan. 26.

Now, it looks like the White House may have moved the date to ensure the speech could include the health care reform package. The health care bill that passed on Christmas Eve is currently being fine tuned and Obama can only sign the bill and show it off when it is ratified. The later date gives the Pres some time to make it happen.

Fans are unhappy to say the least. Some have to taken to Twitter to express their anger over the date change. One even launched a Twitter attack under the hashtag #NoStateofUnionFeb2.

Variety seems to think the co-CEO of the agency that represents Lost’s executive producer, Carlton Cuse, should “fix this” by calling his brother, who just happens to works at the White House.

It seems some people (maybe most people) would rather try to figure out how Lost ends then try to figure out the new Healthcare bill.

We start this weeks episode with Jin, who is slowly comingback to reality when he hears his radio saying the hostile escaped. Jin radios back that he was attacked and that the hostile is northbound. Jin then goes on to find Ben, who’s dying on the road after being shot. Back at the barracks, the fire is out, and Horace astutely points out that the fire was a diversion so the hostile could escape. Horace goes on to state that someone helped him, and it had to be someone on the inside. Roger and Kate are pulling the van out when Jin shows up and carries Ben inside. Roger rushes in as well.

Then we’re at three years ago. Kate pulls up to a house with her kid, and she carries him to the front door. Cassidy opens up and is very happy to see her, and she tells her that she saw the news reports involving her surviving the crash. She never expected to see Kate again, but Kate quickly explains that she was sent by Sawyer. She then tells Cassidy the truth about the crash and living on the island. Cassidy isn’t too pleased about hearing from Sawyer, and calls him a coward.

Back to the Dharma security station. Kate goes to Saqyer and asks if Sayid shot Ben. Sawyer basically tells her to shut the hell up, and doesn’t say anythign futher about it. Horace comes in and wants to know what she’s doing. Saqyer tells him that Kate works in the motor pool and he was inquiring if she saw anythign suspicious. She didn’t so she leaves. Horace and Sawyer investigate the cell and find the janitor’s keys hanging from the lock. That means one of the three janitors was somehow involved. In the infirmary Juliet is trying to save Ben, bu tno luck. Sawyer asks there the doctor is but he’s in the Looking Glass Station until Friday. Ben, unfortunately, needs a surgeon.

Miles has gotten jack, Kate, and Hurley and then put them on house arrest. Jack isn’t pleased but Kate points out that Sawyer’s just doing his job. Then Sawyer comes in and days if he doesn’t go with him Ben will die. Jack Refuses, saying he can’t change what happened and it has nothing to do with him. Javk said he saved Ben once, he won’t do it again, and that maybe the island is fixing things itself. Kate goes to the infirmary and says she’s ready to donate blood to Ben. Roger bursts in wants to know what’s going on. Even with the blood, however, Ben is going to die, unless….the Others can save him. Kate drives the van and puts Ben in the back.

Now we’re back at the marina parking lot. Kate finds out that Ben and Jack want to head back to the island. She calls them both nuts and leaves. Kate then pulls into a nearby grocery store and looks at her cell phone (it is Jack) and when she looks up, Aaron is gone. Kate rushes though the aisles but sees nothing, but she sees him heading out holding hands with a woman. Kate rushes after them thinking Claire has him but it is just some lady who thought he was lost. Kate thanks the woman and they leave.

Back at the island again Kate drives up to the pylons. Sawyer pulls up behind her and lets her know he’s there to help. At Jack’s house, Juliet tells Jack they’re trying to save Ben because they care, and Jack fires back that he’s trying to save them. Jack says he was supposed to come back, and Julliet asks to do what? He doesn’t know. Sawyer is carrying Ben through the jungle and Kate tells him she saw Cassidy and Clementine and that Clementine looks like him. Sawyer says it never would have worked out. Then they’re surrounded by Others, since they’re violating the truce. Sawyer says he knows that but he wants to talk to Richard Alpert.

One flashy screen later and we’re at a motel near LAX and Kate knocks on the door. Claire’s mom Carole answers. Kate tells her everything, that Aaron is her grandson and Claire is still alive. Kate says the rescue was a lie and that Claire disappeared on the island and she lied to protect everyone. Kate then explains she’s going to find Claire. POOF again and we’re on the island where the Others take Kate, Sawyer and Ben to Alpert. Sawyer says he was shot and they want Alpert to help. Alpert says if he does help Ben won’t be the same. He’ll be one of them from there out. POOF again and we’re at Hydra island on the infirmary where John Locke sits besides Ben and Ben wakes up.

So I’m finally caught up again with Lost after slacking this past week, and we’re into last ngiht’s episode “He’s Our You.” As I mentioned yesterday, we found a young Ben Linus, who in this episode tells Sayid that he met Richard Alpert and then goes on to offer his help in getting Sayid to escape.

Before heading back to the island, Sayid kills a man in Moscow for Ben. The two then head out on their separate ways as Ben is convinced that no one left in Widmore’s organization that could possibly be a threat (sure sure). Back on the island again, Sawyer tries to persuade Sayid to keep on going with the lie he originally told but Sayid doesn’t want to.

The young Ben Linus comes to give Sayid a sandwich, and Sayid sees that the kid is frightened to death of his father. Back in Santo Domingo, adult Ben Linus finds Sayid and tells him that his friends are in danger and that he’s a killer. Sayid says what? No wai!

Back on the island again we see that several Dharma members are listening to Sayid discuss Oceanic 815, Ajira 316 and the Dharma stations. He tells them they’re gonna die and he knows since hey, he’s from the future. Unfortunately they’re skeptical

Sayid is at the marine after refusing to go back to the island with the gang and he goes to a bar to meet up with a woman named Ilana. After meeting her, she attacks him and pulls a gun on Sayid. She’s apparently there to take him to Guam at the request of a family of one of his victims when he was working with Ben. Ilana and Sayid both hop aboard Ajira flight 316, where they see Ben and the other Oceanic 6 people. Guam is out of the question.

Back on the island again, the Dharma members want to execute Sayid as a spy. Sawyer offers help, but Sayid isn’t interested. Then a burning Dharma bus runs into a building and young Ben Linus and Sayid escape out into the jungle amidst the chaos. Jin finds Sayid, but then Sayid knocks him out and takes his weapon. How does he thank young Ben? By shooting the kid.

Ben and Sun are on the plane, but Jack, Kate, Hurley and Sayid have all gone missing.

We do see Sawyer greeting Jack, Kate and Hurley, who informs them that they’re in 1977. Jin heads to see if anyone from the Dharma Initiative witnessed the plane crashing down and wants to find Sun. Unfortunately she doesn’t, but she does find Sayid. Another member of the Initiative is there, however, and Jin is forced to take Sayid prisoner as he’s considered a hostile. Meanwhile Sun and Ben head toward some outriggers so they can make their way to the main island, with Lapidus following behind.

Sawyer and Juliet make Kate, Jack, and Hurley appear to be new recruits and as such they get their own job and living space. Sawyer also finds Sayid, and instructs him to lie and say he’s one of the Others. He agrees to do so, and gets placed in a holding cell. Then we find Sun, who knocks Ben out and she and Lapidus make their way to the main island. They arrive, and Christian Shephard shows up and gives them a picture of the new Dharma crew from 1977. Naturally, they find Kate and Hurley and Jack in the picture.

Jack confronts Saqyer and finds out that he and Juliet are a couple. He wants to take action, but Sawyer persuades him to think it all out first. A boy brings Sayid something to eat and when they exchange names, it turns out he’s a young Ben Linus.

We’re back at the well in the jungle, watching eagerly while Saqyer observes Locke’s descent. Sawyer hears the hum beginning and knows that another flash is on the way. He tells Locke to hold on and the flash washes over them. Again, the well isn’t there anymore and the rope goes directly into the ground. Sawyer tries to dig it out, but no go, Locke is gone. They’ve gone to a time before the well existed, but as he’s observing the landscape, another hum begins.

This flash seems much more severe than the one before, much more violent. The ground drops out beneath them and the group is knocked over. This one actually shook the ground like an earthquake and Sawyer immediately notices the well has reappeared. He tries to rescue Locke but finds the well now filled with rocks. Juliet’s headache goes away and Miles is gone as well, and no more nosebleeds, either. They believe it’s Locke’s doing that the symptoms are no longer appearing.

Three years later, we’re in a room filled with electronics. Phil walks in and scolds a couple in the room, warning them that they’re on the clock. The woman notices that there’s a man out by the pylons, and it’s Horace Goodspeed, who’s blowing up trees. Jerry tells the woman to leave, and they decide to go wake up “LaFleur” who happens to be Sawyer.

Sawyer picks up Miles who’s also on the security team and they drive out to get Horace. He’s passed out and they take him home. Amy, his partner, tells them they had a fight, but then realizes she’s going to have her baby when she’s hit with contractions.

Three years earlier, Sawyer, Juliet, Jin, and Miles find Faraday in the jungle. He tells them that Charlotte died and the last flash made her body vanish. She moved on but they did not. As they’re talking through the jungle gunshots are heard. They follow the sound to find two others standing over a man and woman. The man is dead and the other is forcing a bag over the woman’s head. Sawyer goes to help, and Juliet shoots one of the Others. Sawyer shoots the other…Other? The woman asks who they are but Amy wants to bury the bodies because it’ll break the truce.

Amy leads the way back to the Dharma barracks and upon reaching the pylons the ask Amy to turn the fence off. Sawyer says they just saved Amy’s life and hid the bodies, so she agrees. Amy then turns off the fence, or so we thought. Turns out she didn’t, and they’re all knocked out except Amy, who tricked them.

Three years forward again, Sawyer is helping Amy to the infirmary. Turns out that Amy needs surgery and Sawyer tries to get Juliet to help but she claims it would break their agreement. Every time she tried to help a woman on the island give birth, the woman died. Turns out that this isn’t the case this time, as Juliet says Amy and the baby are fine.

Three years later and Sawyer walks into his house. He picks a flower and meets Juliet who is fixing dinner. She says she loves him and he returns her love. Horace wakes up and he’s hungover, where Sawyer tells him Amy had the baby. Horace then points out that he found Paul’s ankh in the back drawer. He’s mad about it, but Sawyer consoles him.

Sawyer and Juliet are woken up by their phone ringing. Jin is on the other end of the line and he’s shocked to hear that Jin wants hom to meet in the North Valley. Sawyer runs out and drives out to the meeting point. Jin drives up in the van, out steps Hurley. The last person out is Kate. She sees him and smiles, and that’s where we end!

A man walks into an office and begins searching through files and folders with the Dharma logo and formulas on it. He also picks up a sawed-off shotgun that’s stuffed under the desk. Another woman enters and calls him byt he name of Caesar. Llana is her name, and she tells him they found a man standing in the water wearing a suit. Curious, they head out together.

As they cross through the jungle area, Llana points out that the man wasn’t one of those who vanished nor was he on the plane. They pass by a burned out airplane and continue to the beach where they meet the man. We of course recognize him right away. He’s John Locke, and he’s alive…sorta.

Locke takes off his shoes and looks at the bigger island in the distance. Locke says that he thinks he was going to be buried in the suit (duh) and that he remembers dying as well. He could be on a smaller “Hydra” station, but we’re not sure yet.

Then we flash to Locke in the room with the donkey wheel. Christian shephard is turning the wheel and a bright white light flies throught he room. Christian then tells Locke to say hello to his son, and before he can ask who his son is, he’s enveloped in light and he finds himself in the desert during a hot day. His leg is busted and he’s in horrible pain, and there’s nothing there except a video camera pointed at him. Locke calls out for help, and as night falls headlights approach him. Four men jump out, grab him, and throw him in the back.

Locke is then taken to an old and busted hospital. A doctor comes in and gives him some pills and some gross looking water. They put a wood block in Locke’s mouth and..you know where this is going. Let’s just say they realign the leg by jamming it back into place. They then rip the sheets into pieces and put them in the plaster to make a cast. Locke sees a man watching him from the shadows before he passes out.

Locke wakes up to see Charles Widmore, who explains that he was the Others’ leader. They protected the island peacefully but he was then exiled by Ben. Locke tells him that Ben is gone because he chose to leave. Widmore explains to Locke that the the ones who left have been back for three years now. Widmore then explains that they’ve gone on with their lives and none of them have told about the island. Locke wants to bring them back and Widmore agrees to help him since there will be a battle and they all have to be there for the “right” side to win.

Locke is assigned a protector and tries to convince the others to come back but they don’t seem very interested, and no one seems like his bodyguard Abbadon either. This works out since as he helps Locke into the car gunshots ring out and Abbadon is shot and killed. Locke then slams into an oncoming car trying to get away. Locke is taken to Jack’s hospital and wakes up with Jack there. He then explains to Jack that they have to go back, but he says no.

Locke gets released from the hotel and having failed to get the others to come back to the island considers suicide. A knock on the door reveals Benjamin Linus, who’s there to protect Locke. Ben killed Abbadon but warns Locke that Widmore is very dangerous.

After some chatting, Ben suddenly attacks Locke and uses the extension corde to choke him. After killing him, he hoists Locke’s body up on the noose. Some accident..

Flash to Hydra island. Locke finds Caesar back in the office looking for a folder. Locke goes on to explain that th elogo and the building are for the Dharma initiative. Caesar asks him to explain how the man with curly hair vanished as the plane went down. Locke says that everyone who didn’t vanish off the plane is accounted for. Caesar takes Locke to the makeshift infirmary and Locke finds Ben Linus there, battered and unconscious. Needless to say, Locke points out that this is his killer.

The first episode premieres on Wednesday, January 21st, on ABC and it promises to please die-hard fans. Here is a look at the first few episodes and a taste of what you have to look forward to in the upcoming weeks.

The first episode is entitled “Because You Left”. The episode will find the Oceanic Six coming to terms with the fact that they do need to return to the island whether they want to or not. Jack convinces them they must all return together and bring Locke’s body if they want to save the other castaways.

Episode two is called “The Lie” and finds Hugo “Hurley” Reyes (Jorge Garcia) and Sayid Jarrah (Naveen Andrews) running from the cops after stumbling into trouble at the safe house. The island survivors are apparently attacked by unknown forces. Also in ep 2 Kate is given shocking advice by an old friend in order to ensure that “the lie” remain a secret. There is also a rumor that Michelle Rodriguez’s character, Ana Lucia Cortez, will appear in this episode.

The third episode is called “Jughead” and several spoiler sites report that a scene was filmed for the episode in which Locke and Richard are running through the jungle while being shot at. Another scene shot for “Jughead” involves Sayid and Hurley escaping from Santa Rosa and at one point Hurley has blood on him but it is unclear if he has been injured or if it is someone else’s.

The fourth episode of the fifth season is “The Little Prince”. Kristen over at E! let is slip that the episode is about a marooned sailor and pondered, “who could be sailing solo for a few episodes this season? (Hint: Not Tom Hanks, but someone I love even more.)” This episode may also find Hurley in jail.

Episode five, “This Place is Death” marks the return of Jin, dead or alive. Episode six and seven are called “The Life and Death of Jeremy Bentham” and “316″ but not much else is known about these episodes yet so I guess we’ll just have to watch to find out!
