Dish Network Corp. is a satellite service provider that specializes in offering direct broadcast satellite TV and audio to private homes as well as to business throughout both the US and Mexico. This wide reaching corporation first began offering its services back in 1996 as an offshoot of EchoStar, a leading “big dish” provider.
By 1998 EchoStar had purchased the broadcasting assets previously held by the combined group of MCI Worldcom and News Corp’s ASkyB. This gave EchoStar 28 out of 32 transponder licenses for the 110° West orbit. This move increased the current US continental broadcasting capability by more than two times.
It was this purchase that led to the creation of the Dish 500 system which was purported to be able to receive more than five hundred channels. By January 2005 EchoStar had bought out HDTV provider Voom as well as its satellite. As of January 2008 EchoStar had grown large enough that it made the decision to split into two individual businesses. The newly minted Dish Network Corp. was the larger of the two.
I grew up with Saturday Night Live, sometimes being allowed to watch the first half of it when I was young. The comedy show first aired on October 11, 1975 and has since become one of the longest running shows on television. Lorne Michaels is the brains behind the operation and sometimes gets 10 seconds of air time every now and again. The show has turned out an impressive resume of actors, and I would even go as far to say the best show to launch an actor’s career. Those include John Belushi, Dan Aykroyd, Mike Myers, Dana Carvey, Will Ferrell, and Amy Poehler. The parodies are priceless and one can endlessly watch YouTube clips of the classics like Cowbell, Schwete Balls, and Jeopardy. But more recently, the show has been struggling mightily.
If you recognize the title, then you’ve passed the test of being a fan. The CBS comedy How I Met Your Mother is now in it’s fifth season and is still going strong. Personally I thought for sure that it would be about two seasons then done for the show, but anything with NPH in it (Neil Patrick Harris) is pretty much guaranteed to be a hit. They do a lot of things well in the show, more than just providing good laughs in the half-hour span. Each character brings their own quirks to the group. While they are five different middle-aged characters, they all support one another, creating a New York family. NPH is the most recognizable person from the show because of Doogie Howser and more recently the Harold & Kumar movies. Jason Segel has been in a number of Judd Apatow movies and Alyson Hannigan is from the American Pie series.

First, he was reunited with his daughter, Angelina Jolie and her family after beign astraigned for several years. Though he’s keeping tight lipped about the reunion, which took place in Italy a couple weeks ago, he did say, “It was wonderful, it was a wonderful trip. It was wonderful to be with the family and each of the kids is very special in their own way. And Brad and Angie are wonderful parents, so I had a great time.”

Rob Lowe is going to be making an appearance on Parks and Recreations and he’s not hiding how excited he is about it. Rob just joined Twitter yesterday and is already tweeting away about his guest starring role and his departure from Brothers and Sisters.

After much speculation, Conan O’Brien finally announced his next move, he’s going on tour. On Thursday, the former host of The Tonight Show tweeted:
“Hey Internet: I’m headed to your town on a half-assed comedy & music tour. Go to http://TeamCoco.com for tix. I repeat: It’s half-assed.”
The 2-month, 30-city tour kicks off on April 12th in Eugene, OR and “promises to be a night of music, comedy, hugging, and the occasional awkward silence.”
There has been so much interest in the shows that they most are already sold out, though more dates are being added. New York, Chicago, Boston, San Francisco, Seattle, Vancouver, and L.A. have all gotten second dates.
Satellite TV giant DirecTV will allow customers access to the Philip Seymour Hoffman film Pirate Radio more than 30 days before the film’s DVD release by Universal.
Pirate Radio was released in 1080p high definition at $5.99 or standard definition for $4.99 via its video-on-demand service beginning yesterday.
“DirecTV Cinema strives to deliver the highest-quality movie experience by offering unique content that is above-and-beyond what consumers find on the usual pay-per-view platform,” said Sarah Lyons, vice president of Marketing for DirecTV. “DirecTV is thrilled to continue raising the bar with Pirate Radio, by offering it to our customers more than a month before the film’s DVD release. We will continue to deliver an unmatched in-home movie experience that can only be found on DirecTV.”
