O.C star Mischa Barton has been hospitalized for an undisclosed “medical issue.”

Access Hollywood reports that Barton was placed under involuntary psychiatric hold by the Los Angeles police and then transferred to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center Wednesday night.

Officers were called to Barton’s home Wednesday afternoon to take care of a medical issue, but then placed her under Section 5150, a code that allows authorities to hold a person involuntarily if they present a danger to themselves or others, are gravely disabled or suffer from a mental disorder.

5150 was also what Britney Spears was famously held on in January 2008. This isn’t Barton’s first run-in with police either. In April 2008, she received three years’ probation for a DUI the previous winter.

Barton is making her return to TV this fall in The CW’s The Beautiful Life: TBL. The new series is typical CW fare about a group of young models living together in NYC. The Beautiful Life: TBL debuts Wednesday, September 16th at 9 p.m.
