This is quite the week for premieres on FOX. The much anticipated 8th Season of American Idol debuts tonight on FOX at 8/7c with a special 2 day, 4 hour premiere. The second half of the premiere will air tomorrow night at the same time. Although I think a lot of people are worn out already from the premiere of 24 there’s no doubt that this will do tremendously well in the ratings.

In my initial preview of American Idol Season 8, I said that I will be watching the show for the guilty pleasure of people making fools of themselves on national TV. We’ll unfortunately FOX is now saying that this season they will focus less on bad auditions, and move quickly to focus on potential contestants. Although people like me won’t get as many laughs, I’m sure this is good news to fans of the show who watch it to see some amazing performances.

Ryan Seacrest will return to host season 8 of the show. Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul, and Randy Jackson will return as judges, along with Kara DioGuardi who has been brought in as a fourth judge for season 8. Let the auditions begin!
