charlie's angelsTwo new shows from a couple very familiar sources may be headed to TV next year. First, former “Seinfeld” writer-producer Larry Charles is slated to return to NBC for a new semi-scripted series. The show will be set in a small town and revolve around a disparate group of people who find a unique way to entertain themselves but making mew episodes of their favorite TV show after it is canceled.

“Our show is a show about us, depicting contemporary American life through the prism of a do-it-yourself homemade aesthetic that will mix mediums to produce a modern mosaic of triumphs glories and absurdities that we all experience and recognize,” Charles said. NBC has ordered a pilot that will also be a prototype for what the show would be. Charles will not only write the pilot but he will direct  as well.

Since “Seinfeld” ended, Charles has worked as a producer of HBO’s “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” starring “Seinfeld” co-creator Larry David and directed Sacha Baron Cohen in “Borat” and “Bruno.” He also took the helm of Bill Maher’s feature documentary “Religulous.”.

ABC may also be bringing back some familiar names. ABC is close to a ordering a pilot for “Charlie’s Angels,” executive produced by the three producers of the two “Charlie’s Angels” movies, Drew Barrymore, Nancy Juvonen and TV veteran Leonard Goldberg, who also executive produced the original series.

Josh Friedman, who worked on the TV revamp of the “Terminator” movie franchise with Fox’s “Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles,” is writing the script and will serve as Executive Producer.
